The outbreak is initially known to have occurred in Kwango Province, a rural town in southwestern DR Congo, 400 miles from the capital. Patients have flu-like respiratory symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, runny nose, and difficulty breathing. Since November 10, 2024, 376 people have been infected, of whom 143 have died, approximately half of whom are young children.
